President Kibaki holds talks with Kofi Annan

President Mwai Kibaki today held talks with former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan at State House, Nairobi.

President Kibaki briefed Mr. Annan on the current political situation in the country and steps his Government was taking to ensure peace was restored in all parts of the country.

President Kibaki also informed Mr. Annan, who was accompanied by former Tanzanian President Benjamin Mkapa and Mrs. Graca Machel on steps his Government was taking to open political dialogue and ensure national reconciliation and healing.

President Kibaki underscored the need for all Kenyans to respect the rule of law and the sanctity of human life.

Today’s talks were the first round in efforts aimed at national political reconciliation.
