President holds talks with US Assistant Secretary for African Affairs

President Mwai Kibaki today met the US Assistant Secretary for African Affairs Dr. Jendayi Frazer at State House Nairobi to discuss the current political situation in the country.

During the meeting, President Kibaki and Dr. Frazer agreed that all efforts should be made towards ensuring that the politically instigated violence is urgently brought to an end and affected families are assisted to resume normal life.

Dr. Frazer commended President Kibaki for reaching out to the opposition in order to stop the violence and called on all parties involved to embrace dialogue as a way out of the current situation.

The US Assistant Secretary for African Affairs said by extending an olive branch to the opposition, President Kibaki had shown his commitment to ending the political impasse that the country was currently experiencing.

She expressed optimism that all concerned parties will work together towards restoring normalcy in Kenya.

On his part, President Kibaki reiterated his readiness to work with all involved parties in addressing the political situation.

The President said he was ready to form a Government of National Unity that would not only unite Kenyans but would also help in the healing and reconciliation process.

Present were ministers Raphael Tuju and Justice and Martha Karua and US Ambassador Michael E. Ranneberger among others.
