‘THE WEEK AHEAD’, 1-7 DECEMBER 2007

Dakar, Senegal, 3 December: The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Government of Senegal will sign, on Monday 3 December 2007 in Dakar, a Memorandum of Understanding for the opening of the West African Regional Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.  The Deputy High Commissioner, Kyung-wha Kang, and the Foreign Minister, Cheikh Tidiane Gadio, will sign the agreement on behalf of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Senegalese government respectively.
National and international media are invited to cover the event which will take place in the conference room of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Burundi, 2-8 December:  The Independent Expert on the situation of Human Rights in Burundi, Mr AKich Okola, will visit this country . During his mission, he will visit two detention facilities in Bujumbura and Makamba. He will meet the officials of the Government, Civil society organisations and UN Agencies. The aim of the mission is to follow up the implementation of the recommendations made during his previous visits in this country.
