UNOCI welcomes the adoption of a Code of Conduct for elections in Cote d’Ivoire

Abidjan, 16 November 2007……UNOCI welcomes the unanimous adoption in Abidjan of a Code of Conduct by Ivorian political groups, at the instigation of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).

UNOCI congratulates all those who contributed to this significant advancement in the implementation of the Ouagadougou Political Agreement, signed on 4 March 2007, which expresses the willingness of the political actors to hold elections that are free, transparent, democratic and in conformity with international norms.

UNOCI urges the political groups to validate the Code of Conduct as soon as possible, as this will show their commitment and determination to have a healthy electoral competition that will guarantee the consolidation of lasting peace in Cote d’Ivoire.
