STATEMENT BY THE INTER-AGENCY STANDING COMMITTEE (IASC) IN UGANDA ON THE KILLING OF TWO INGO STAFF IN AMURU DISTRICT

The Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) in Uganda condemns in the strongest terms the murder today of two Ugandan staff of the international non-governmental organization ACTED (Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development).

The two staff members were killed when their vehicle was attacked by a group of unknown armed assailants in Amuru District. Two other staff members in the vehicle survived the attack, although one was wounded and is now being treated at hospital in Gulu. All ACTED staff involved in the incident have been accounted for.

The IASC extend their full support to the Ugandan authorities in conducting their thorough investigation into this criminal act in as rapid a manner as possible.

On behalf of the entire humanitarian community, the IASC in Uganda extends its deepest condolences to the victims and survivors of the attack, and to their colleagues, friends and, especially, their families. The commitment of our fallen colleagues to help mitigate the suffering of their fellow countrymen will not be forgotten.
