THE HAGUE, Netherland, November 20, 2012/African Press Organization (APO)/ Exset (http://www.exset.com), pioneers of TV ecosystems for emerging markets, has today revealed how its pioneering Digital Monetisation System (DMS) will assist governments’ vital information dissemination across Africa as they continue to work towards the UN’s Millennium Development Goals.

The aim of the UN’s Millennium Development Goals – of which there are eight – is to encourage advancement by improving social and economic conditions in the world’s developing countries. The eight goals include: eradicating extreme poverty and hunger; achieving universal primary education; and eradicating malaria and other diseases, among others.

Attaining these goals continues to prove challenging for many countries with governments eager for methods that increase knowledge about – and the reach of – their development programmes. DMS has been designed to allow information dissemination via TV screens – using interactivity – to populations while also monetising that process at the same time. This will help facilitate lifestyle improvements via a more informed society and healthier lifestyles.

Rahul Nehra, Global Head of Sales and Marketing at Exset, says, “One of the key tenets of the Millennium Goals – and one of the key challenges that governments face – is information dissemination to empower populations. This requires digital networks, and the monetisation of those networks, to facilitate this reach. As the International Telecommunications Union has recognised, the migration to digital broadcasting in emerging markets is about so much more than digital broadcasting. This is the value of Exset’s Digital Monetisation System – it provides a complete, monetised ecosystem to create platforms that use existing TV screens as the way of reaching populations.”

Across Africa, the TV screen offers the most potent and low-cost way of reaching populations on the wrong side of the digital divide. The DMS-powered Africa Page provides a gateway to the world of vital government information services – health and education for example – allowing populations to benefit from essential information that was otherwise unavailable to them.

Alex Borland, CEO, Exset, says, “The Africa Page will empower consumers, helping to increase knowledge and engagement with wider society. And by providing new revenue streams through interactive public services and interactive advertising revenues – as well as teleshopping and games – the Africa Page allows network operators to monetise their service offering while maintaining a minimal subscriber cost.”

DMS – an award-winning solution – bridges the gap between technology and value-added services. It allows digital television platforms to be created that can then be monetised where previously impossible. The result allows populations to benefit from new information and entertainment services, while partnering governments to achieve digital switchover and bringing social transformation.
