Statement by High Representative Catherine Ashton on the appointment of the new Prime Minister of Egypt
BRUSSELS, Kingdom of Belgium, July 24, 2012/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and VicePresident of the Commission issued the following statement today:
“I congratulate Prime Minister Hesham Qandil on his nomination as Prime Minister and wish him every success. His appointment is another step forward in the country’s democratic transition. As I told President Morsi last week when we met in Cairo, we look forward to working with him and the new Government which I trust will be inclusive and representative of Egypt’s diversity.
The EU knows that Egypt faces many social, political and economic challenges. As I discussed with President Morsi, we are ready to work with him and provide assistance at this crucial time in Egypt’s history, working in close partnership with Egypt’s new democratic authorities.”
