
UN and Liberian Government partners discuss “World AIDS Day” at UNMIL Press Briefing on 30 November 2011
MONROVIA, Liberia, November 29, 2011/African Press Organization (APO)/ — UNMIL will host its regular press briefing at its Pan African Plaza Headquarters in Sinkor at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, 30 November 2011. The following persons will address journalists on the occasion of World AIDS Day (WAD) which is observed on December 1 every year and is meant to raise awareness on the AIDS pandemic that is caused by the spread of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
Dr Ivan Camanor, Executive Director of National AIDS Commission will be speaking of the theme of World AIDS Day 2011 and the role of the government in the national AIDS response, progress, challenges and way forward regarding Zero AIDS Discrimination, Zero AIDS related deaths and Zero New HIV infections.
Mr. David Chipanta UN AIDS Country Coordinator will expand on UNAIDS Strategy of Getting to Zero and the global AIDS response; progress and challenges and implications for Liberia.
Dr. Gameli Seadzi: UNMIL HIV/AIDS Adviser will address UNMIL’s role in support of National HIV Control Programme.
UNMIL Spokesperson Yasmina Bouziane will moderate the press conference.
This year also marks the tenth anniversary of the International Year of Volunteers (IYV+10). As part of the celebration, a Community Volunteer Service Day has been organized for Saturday, December 3rd and also present at the press briefing will be national and international volunteers to speak of the community service and clean up drive they will undertake in the West Point Community from 7.30-11.00am on 3rd December.
