Laurent Lamothe Makes His First Commitments as the New Haitian Minister of Foreign Affairs

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti, October 28, 2011/PRNewswire via African Press Organization (APO)/ — Mr. Laurent Lamothe delivered his first official speech as the new Haitian Minister of Foreign Affairs, at his installation ceremony held last Monday in Bois-Verna, Haiti. President Michel Martelly attended the ceremony, along with Prime Minister Garry Conille and several ministers, members of parliament and representatives of the diplomatic corps.

Mr. Lamothe’s predecessor, Marie-Michele Rey has wished the “greater good” to the new chancellery and promised to remain available for the new minister. For his part, President Martelly sees in Mr. Lamothe an experienced fighter. He invited him to promote Haiti around the world and reminded him of the necessity to take concrete action to attract investment to the country.

As a matter of fact, investment to Haiti was one of the main topics of Mr. Lamothe’s first speech. The new Minister committed to strengthen efforts to modernize and revitalize the chancellery, making it a driving force for the promotion and the development of Haiti.

“As Minister of Foreign Affairs,” he said, “I will work on deepening Haiti’s links with its traditional partners from the North and the South, while exploring all the opportunities for economic, cultural, scientific and technological cooperation that may benefit my country.”

“Haiti is open for business!” he stated. “The President said so, the Prime Minister reaffirmed it. Haitian diplomacy will be oriented toward the influx of foreign capital, direct investments that create jobs and stimulate economic growth.”
