UNAMID conducts risk education for school students
In the framework of UNAMID risk awareness raising activities throughout Darfur on the dangers of unexploded ordnance (UXOs), the Mission’s Ordnance Disposal Office conducted a two-day workshop on puppetry skills with the local NGO Friends of Peace and Development to help them to deliver messages to children in a more child friendly manner. The final test of the workshop was for the participants to conduct a risk education class on the dangers of the UXOs today at the Umm Aymah basic school in El Fasher, North Darfur.
UNAMID and its local partners started these awareness projects in 2008. A number of children have been reportedly injured by UXOs in different locations in Darfur; most recently when three children were killed and five injured while they were playing.
UNAMID patrols
UNAMID military conducted 146 patrols including routine, short-range, long-range, night and humanitarian escort patrols covering 96 villages and internally displaced persons (IDP) camps. UNAMID Police advisors conducted 88 patrols in villages and IDP camps.
