UN / Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Djibril Yipènè Bassolé, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Cooperation of Burkina Faso, on the margins of the 66th Session of the General Assembly

 

NEW YORK, September 27, 2011/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Djibril Yipènè Bassolé, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Cooperation of Burkina Faso. They discussed recent political developments in Burkina Faso, in particular the efforts undertaken by Burkinabe authorities to strengthen their country’s democratization process and to promote economic development.

 

The Secretary-General and the Foreign Minister also exchanged views on recent developments in Côte d’Ivoire, especially on the continuing role of the Ouagadougou Peace Accords in the consolidation of the Ivorian peace process. They also reviewed regional issues, including the preparations for the elections in Liberia as well as the possible impact for the Sahel region of the current situation in Libya. Finally, they discussed the steps that are still needed to ensure peace and stability in Darfur.
