Update on clashes in Saraf Omra
Following reports of clashes between local farmers and nomads, UNAMID conducted yesterday a verification patrol to Tamaru village, 25 kilometers northeast of Saraf Omra, North Darfur. The team interacted with the local representatives who informed them that on 22 September, 17 members of a local peace committee comprised of representatives of farming and nomadic groups from various tribes in the area were discussing issues related to farmlands and seasonal migration when they were attacked by a group of armed men. As reported to UNAMID, nine assailants shot and killed four participants and injured three persons. The incident is been followed by Government of Sudan police.
UNAMID patrols
UNAMID military conducted 145 patrols including routine, short-range, long-range, night and humanitarian escort patrols covering 77 villages and internally displaced persons (IDP) camps. UNAMID Police advisors conducted 101 patrols in villages and IDP camps.
