
Somalia / Unknown assailants attack Radio Station in Galkacyo
MOGADISHU, Somalia, August 30, 2011/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The National Union of Somali Journalists is alarmed by the attack on Radio station premises in the semiautonomous state of Puntland by unknown assailants on early hours of Friday.
The assailants threw a bomb at the radio station on early hours of Friday morning, slightly wounding the guard of the radio station and damaging the station, according to Abdifatah Omar Ghedi, the director of Daljir Radio in Galkacyo.
Abdifatah Omar Ghedi, the director of Daljir Radio in Galkacyo said “We don’t know why The Radio station has been attacked resulting damages to the station. One of our guards was slightly wounded.”
“We condemn the attack of the radio and we call the Puntland authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the case.” said Burhaan Daahir, NUSOJ Supreme Council president, “This attack carries a huge message of threat which is meant to silence the media.” Mr. Dahir added.
This is the second time the radio was attacked on hand grenades.
