
President Deiss meets with President Ouattara of Côte d’Ivoire

The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Joseph Deiss, met today in New York with H.E. Mr. Alassane Dramane Ouattara, the President of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire. President Ouattara was accompanied by H.E. Mr. Daniel Kablan Duncan, Minister of Foreign Affairs; H.E. Mr. Albert Mabri Toikeusse, Minister of Planning and Development; H.E. Mr. Charles Koffi Diby, Minister of Economy and Finance; H.E. Mr. Amadou Gon Coulibaly, Secretary-General of the Presidency; and H.E. Mr. Joseph Youssoufou Bamba, Permanent Representative of Côte d’Ivoire to the United Nations.
President Ouattara thanked President Deiss for the support provided by the United Nations and its General Assembly to Côte d’Ivoire and briefed the President of the General Assembly on the situation in the country.
Both Presidents underlined the importance of national reconciliation and stressed the need for the international community to continue to assist Côte d’Ivoire as the country now faces the challenge of healing and reconstruction. In this regard, President Deiss highlighted the fact that the reinforcement of the rule of law, respect for human rights and democratic institutions are essential to the empowerment and stability, peace and national reconciliation in Côte d’Ivoire.
