Second day of Doha talks witness delays

Talks were briefly delayed today at the All Darfur Stakeholders Conference in Doha, Qatar, after representatives of displaced persons and the civil society initially refused to participate. The refusal was brought on by delays in the arrival of a number of their delegations leaders.

The discussions resumed later in the day and reviewed the delegates’ positions on a number of key elements including justice and reconciliation, human rights, peaceful coexistence and power and wealth sharing.

The five-day stakeholders conference features representatives from the Government of the Sudan, Darfur opposition movements, civil society representatives, internally displaced persons (IDPs), Sudanese political party leaders and elected Darfuris in state and national assemblies. It is hoped that the final outcome of the talks will form the basis of a peace deal to resolve the Darfur conflict.

UNAMID patrols

UNAMID military conducted 135 patrols including routine, short-range, long-range, night and humanitarian escort patrols covering 72 villages and IDP camps.

UNAMID police advisors conducted 119 patrols in villages and IDP camps.
