The Foreign Ministry is continuing its cooperation and humanitarian assistance effort in Libya
ROME, Italy, May 25, 2011/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The humanitarian operation of 23 May 2011 has reached a successful conclusion with the repatriation of the Libyan citizens treated in Italian hospitals. The operation also saw the transfer to Rome of 8 Libyan children for specialist treatment at the Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital. Italian Development Cooperation’s humanitarian assistance effort is thus continuing, to the benefit of the most vulnerable sectors of the Libyan population affected by the current events.
Food supplies amounting to 22 tons and including flour, pasta, rice, oil, sugar, water and long-life milk reached the port of Civitavecchia (Rome) today.
The supplies were generously provided to Italian Development Cooperation by the UNICREDIT banking group. They will be loaded on to the San Giorgio, which will be setting sail very soon for Cyrenaica, and then distributed to the Libyan population.
