Statement by the AU UN Mediation for Darfur

 

DOHA, Qatar, April 29, 2011/African Press Organization (APO)/ — H.E. Mr. Ahmed Bin Abdullah Al-Mahmoud, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, and H.E. Mr. Djibrill Bassolé, the AU-UN Joint Chief Mediator issued the following statement, further to the statement issued on 19 April 2011 on the Mediation plan to submit to the parties a draft peace document for Darfur on 27 April 2011.

    The Mediation has today, Wednesday, 27April 2011, submitted a draft Darfur peace document to the heads of delegations participating in the Darfur peace process in Doha, namely: Dr. Amin Hassan Omer, Head of the Government of Sudan Delegation to the Darfur peace negotiations; Dr. Eltigani Seisi Mohamed Ateem, Chairman of the Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM); and Mr. Mohammed Bahar Ali Hamadain, Vice President of the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM).

    The Mediation requested the Parties to consider the draft document and submit their final observations thereon by Saturday,

7 May 2011.

The Mediation has also urged the Government and JEM to continue to negotiate urgently and directly and to submit the outcomes of their discussions by Saturday 7 May 2011 for inclusion in the final draft document.

    Meanwhile, the Mediation is continuing in the planning and preparation for the All Darfur Stakeholders Conference, scheduled to take place in Doha from 18-23 May 2011.
