German Federal Foreign Minister Westerwelle appalled at suspected attack in Marrakech

BERLIN, Germany, April 29, 2011/African Press Organization (APO)/ — Federal Foreign Minister Westerwelle was appalled at the news of the suspected attack on a popular tourist cafe in Marrakech which caused numerous deaths and injuries.

“I am shocked and saddened by this explosion. At this difficult time our thoughts are with those who have lost friends and loved ones. We wish those who have been injured a speedy recovery.

We are all the more dismayed that signs suggest a criminal attack. Such an attack would be a cynical and despicable act, which we condemn in the strongest possible terms. This event must not be allowed to undermine the reform process that has begun in Morocco.”

The German Embassy in Rabat is in action, and is working intensively to procure information about the identities of the dead and the injured. Thus far there is no evidence suggesting that any Germans were killed or injured in the attack.
