UN General Assembly President Deiss meets with President Giorgio Napolitano of Italy; receives a high level delegation from Malawi

 

 

NEW YORK, March 29, 2011/African Press Organization (APO)/ — Note attributable to the spokesperson for the President of the General Assembly

H.E. Mr. Joseph Deiss, President of the General Assembly, met today in New York with H.E. Mr. Giorgio Napolitano, President of Italy. The meeting took place before a plenary of the General Assembly, during which the Italian President addressed Member States.`

During their bilateral meeting, President Deiss thanked President Napolitano for Italy’s commitment to the United Nations. Topics discussed included the situation in Libya, global governance, Security Council reform and other important issues on the agenda of the sixty-fifth session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Earlier today, President Deiss received a high-level delegation from Malawi headed by the country’s Foreign Minister, H.E. Prof. Eta Elizabeth Banda. President Deiss thanked Malawi for its contribution to the work of the United Nations General Assembly and underlined the importance of the High-level Meeting on HIV/AIDS that will take place from 8 to 10 June 2011 in New York as well as the High-level Meeting on Youth on 25 and 26 July 2011 in New York.
