The only “multisector” French-African event of its kind held nationally, the AFRICA FRANCE BUSINESS MEETINGS will be held for the 3rd consecutive year in Bordeaux on 23, 24 and 25 May 2011. The event is organized around an original concept of 3 half-days of one-on-one business appointments, each lasting 30 minutes maximum. Over 200 entrepreneurs are expected, half of them from Africa.
In 2010, there were 99 African businesspeople and 85 directors from France. Of the 17 countries present, some were represented by large delegations, as was the case of Morocco, Ivory Coast, Nigeria and Angola. The event is designed primarily to foster exchanges between North and South, but also provides an opportunity for African participants to meet each other and do business together. On the occasion of the 2nd edition, 17% of the business appointments were between partners from the South.
2011 edition focused on 5 sectors of activity and on target African countries
In 2011, recruitment of companies will be organised around 5 key sectors of activity: ICT, Eco-Industry, Agriculture and Food, Health and Capital Goods. Regarding the African participants, in addition to the presence of French-speaking entrepreneurs from West Africa, there will also be large delegations from Algeria and Libya in North Africa, and from Nigeria, Ethiopia, Kenya and South Africa for the English-speaking countries, plus Angola and Mozambique for the Portuguese-speaking nations.
Bordeaux: an attractive city for a common future with Africa
A city of trade by nature and by history, Bordeaux has always enjoyed extensive contacts with the rest of the world. Since 2007 it has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Its economy is expanding strongly, driven by its diversity and innovation: wine, of course, but also aeronautics, lasers and optics, health, agriculture and food, wood, construction and public works, engineering services, IT, ICT and multimedia.
The city’s relations with Africa go back a long way, and have always been rich and changing: Bordeaux is a major centre of research and higher education, and is a favourite destination for African students seeking to pursue their studies. The Bordeaux South-West Africa Committee (CBSOA), one of the joint organisers of AFBM 2011, is one of the biggest business clubs focusing on Africa.
