Update on security situation
UNAMID peacekeepers have intensified the scope and number of their patrols in North Darfur to protect civilians, following recent fighting. No significant incidents have been reported within the last 24hr period.
Civil society discusses democracy in West Darfur
Over 100 participants today began a two-day seminar in Zalingei, West Darfur, on the role of civil society in democratic systems. The event, organized by the UNAMID Civil Affairs component, brought together teachers, lawyers, native administration leaders and representatives from local women’s’ and youth groups to discuss democratic and related processes and the promotion of democracy in their communities.
UNAMID patrols
UNAMID military conducted 109 patrols including routine, short-range, long-range, night and humanitarian escort patrols covering 82 villages and IDP camps.
UNAMID police advisors conducted 165 patrols in villages and IDP camps.
