TOKYO, Japan, January 28, 2011/African Press Organization (APO)/ — Japan is closely monitoring the situation in the Arab Republic of Egypt where mass-scale demonstrations have been taking place since Tuesday, January 25, in various cities, including the capital, Cairo. Japan is concerned about the deaths and injuries that have been caused by the demonstrations.

Japan hopes that Egypt, as a pivotal country of the region, will overcome the current situation smoothly and peacefully.  We hope that the Government of Egypt will listen to the voices of many citizens, promote reforms in a way that gains support of a wide range of people and realize its stability and progress.
