Cooperation / New Italy-Senegal framework agreement

ROME, Italy, December 10, 2010/African Press Organization (APO)/ — Renewal of cooperation agreement between Italy and Senegal at the first edition of Italy-Senegal Cooperation Days held on 6 and 7 December 2010 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ambassador of Italy in Dakar Giuseppe Calvetta and Head of the Senegalese Foreign Minister’s Cabinet Mamadou Ndiaye signed a framework agreement on development cooperation between Italy and Senegal.

The agreement replaces and renews the preceding one of 1962 and greatly simplifies cooperation instruments, adapting them to the changing international aid context and new cooperation actors.

The agreement signed at Dakar, and the 3-year STREAM operational programme it stipulates for the 22010-2012 triennial, envisages an overall Italian Cooperation contribution of approximately €70 million, strengthening already excellent bilateral and development cooperation relations between Italy and Senegal.

The Italian Cooperation has over 40 years of history in Senegal. The opening of a Cooperation office in Dakar in 2006 led to relaunching a resources concentration process that, in addition to agriculture and social interventions, also concerned support for the private sector.
