Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs Gunilla Carlsson to attend EU-AU summit
STOCKHOLM, Sweden, November 26, 2010/African Press Organization (APO)/ — Minister for International Development Cooperation Gunilla Carlsson will attend the EU-Africa summit to be held in Tripoli, Libya on 29-30 November 2010.
“It is important – not least in light of the new actors that are now taking an increasingly active role in the African arena – to demonstrate the EU’s positive interest in broader and even more dynamic cooperation with Africa in the future.
“This summit takes place a few days after the climate conference in Cancún, and for this reason it is a good opportunity to try to coordinate African and European positions within this key area,” says Ms Carlsson.
The EU will be represented by President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy and President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso. Ms Carlsson will head the Swedish delegation.
The purpose of the meeting is to follow up on the cooperation that has been developed over the past three years within the eight partnership areas that have been identified and that span broad issues concerning policy, security, trade, environment, climate, energy and aid.
