
The Chairperson receives the Credentials of new Permanent Representatives to the African Union from ARMENIA and NEW ZEALAND
ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, October 27, 2010/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Dr. Jean PING, received in his Office at AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa, on Monday 25 October 2010, in separate official ceremonies, the credentials of the Ambassadors of Armenia, H. E. ARMEN MELKONYAN and of New Zealand, H. E. RENE CHARLES WILSON as first Permanent Representatives of their respective countries to the African Union (AU).
Both diplomats are currently serving as Ambassadors of their respective countries to the Arab Republic of Egypt.
On this occasion, the Chairperson welcomed the two new Permanent Representatives to the AU and assured them of the full cooperation and support of the AU Commission in the discharge of their new responsibilities.
He further exchanged views with the two Ambassadors on ways and means to enhance bilateral cooperation between the AU Commission and their respective countries.
The new Permanent Representative of Armenia underlined the historical links between Africa and Armenia, adding that Armenia has important communities in some African, countries including Ethiopia, Egypt and Sudan. He expressed confidence that his appointment will give a new impetus to the deepening of the friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation between Armenia and the African Union as well as the development of bilateral and multilateral relations with AU Member States.
For his part, the new Permanent Representative of New Zealand pointed out that the African Union is an important partner for his country, adding that he is committed to work closely with the AU Commission to strengthen this partnership in order to bring mutually beneficial results.
