
Côte d’Ivoire / UNOCI comes to the aid of a Deputy-Prefect victim of road accident in Bondoukou
ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast, August 26, 2010/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The 13th Ghanaian battalion of the United Nations Operation in Côte d’Ivoire (UNOCI) deployed in Bondoukou, on Tuesday afternoon came to the aid of a deputy-Prefect who was the victim of a road accident near the entry of the capital of the Zanzan region.
The Deputy-Prefect of Assuefry and the driver were entering the town when they crashed into an electricity pylon which fell over the car, causing small injury to the Deputy-Prefect who was immediately evacuated to hospital with the driver.
Alerted by the United Nations Police, UNOCI’s Ghanaian battalion dispatched a crane as well as two trucks to pull off the pylon and remove the damaged car.
In addition to its contribution to the security provision of the town through its night and day patrols, UNOCI’s Ghanaian battalion provides assistance to the population in the Zanzan region, especially through the distribution of free drinking water to the underprivileged neighborhoods, free medical consultations and treatment.
