Statement by the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan
KARTHOUM, Sudan, August 25, 2010/African Press Organization (APO)/ — Statement by the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan
Today, 25 August, marks the 100th day of captivity for the Samaritan’s Purse staff member held in South Darfur.
On this sad occasion, the Humanitarian Coordinator calls upon the Government of Sudan and state authorities to continue to work hard to secure the safe release of our humanitarian colleague who was abducted on 18 May, with a view to countering the negative effect that this incident has on the humanitarian community as a whole.
In this regard, the Humanitarian Coordinator also calls on the humanitarian community and national and state authorities to work closely together for a safe environment for civilians and humanitarian aid workers in Darfur.
The thoughts of the Humanitarian Country Team are with the family and colleagues of the Samaritan’s Purse staff member at this difficult time.
