UNDER SECRETARY FOR PUBLIC DIPLOMACY AND PUBLIC AFFAIRS JUDITH MCHALE:
Under Secretary McHale travels to Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Kenya through July 2.
In Uganda, Under Secretary McHale will visit the Islamic University in Uganda Women’s Campus and deliver the keynote address at a conference on “Maximizing the Value and Impact of East African Broadband for Higher Education.” She will also meet with Ugandan President Museveni, media executives and embassy staff.
In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Under Secretary McHale will meet with Annie Chebeya, the widow of slain human rights advocate Floribert Chebeya. She will also meet with NGO officials, embassy staff, and attend celebrations in honor of the DRC’s 50th anniversary of independence.
In Kenya, Under Secretary McHale will meet with Kenyan President Kibaki and Prime Minister Odinga, youth leaders, embassy staff, Kenyan entrepreneurs and media officials. She will also officially launch the Department of State-sponsored Apps for Africa competition and meet with Nobel Laureate Wangari Maathai.
ASSISTANT SECRETARY FOR AFRICAN AFFAIRS JOHNNIE CARSON:
3:00 p.m. Assistant Secretary Carson meets with Danish Ambassador to Kenya Geert Andersen, at the Department of State.
