Security situation in Darfur
No significant incidents were reported in the past 24 hours.
On 27 June, a verification exercise of new arrivals in Hassa Hissa Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Zalingei, West Darfur, conducted by a humanitarian inter-agency team has established that a total of 725 households have recently been displaced to Zalingei by fighting in the Jebel Marra area.
Conflict resolution workshop in West Darfur
UNAMID began today a three-day workshop on “Conflict Resolution, Reconciliation, Negotiation and Mediation” for 100 native administrators and members of the Zalingei Peaceful Coexistence Committee.
The workshop aims at enhancing the participants’ capacity to settle tribal disputes in an area where ongoing clashes continue to claim lives. The objective is for the beneficiaries to share the knowledge gained with other local leaders when they return to their communities.
UNAMID patrols
UNAMID military forces conducted 83 patrols including routine, short-range, long-range, night, and humanitarian escort patrols, covering 49 villages and IDP camps during the reporting period.
UNAMID police advisors conducted 142 patrols in villages and internally displaced persons camps.
