
AU contribution to refugees, returnees and IDPS
ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, June 25, 2010/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The African Union (AU) will officially hand over cheques to countries affected by forced displacement today, Friday 25 June 2010 at 14h00, at the headquarters of the AU in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
H. E Mrs Julia Dolly Joiner, AU Commissioner for Political Affairs will hand over a total value of 500,000 US$ in form of cheques to representatives of Angola, Algeria, Sahrawi Arab, Egypt, Uganda, Cote d’Ivoire, DRC, Ethiopia, UNHCR and International Federation of Red Cross. The donation is a contribution of the AU to address the challenge of refugees, returnees and Internally Displaced Persons (IDP’s) and is part of the commemoration of the Africa World Refugee Day, observed every year since 2001, on 20 June.
The event will take place in Committee Room III at 14h00 at the African Union. Journalists are invited to cover the ceremony.
