Security situation in Darfur


Two German nationals from Technisches Hilfswerk (THW), a German relief organization, were reported kidnapped last night from their residence in Nyala, South Darfur. No other details are known at this time.

Meanwhile, it has been 37 days since the Samaritan Purse aid worker was kidnapped in South Darfur.

Human Rights workshop aimed at local legal professionals  
UNAMID today began a two-day human rights workshop for legal practitioners in El Fasher, North Darfur.

The twenty participants, comprising mainly judges, clerks and lawyers, are members of the Minni Minnawi faction of the Sudan Liberation Army (SLA/MM).

The event focused on such issues as national and international law on civil and criminal prosecutions, juvenile trials, gender issues and court record-keeping.

UNAMID patrols
UNAMID military forces conducted 86 patrols including routine, short-range, long-range, night, and humanitarian escort patrols, covering 67 villages and IDP camps during the reporting period.

UNAMID police advisors conducted 114 patrols in villages and internally displaced persons camps.
