Message from President James A. Michel In his capacity as the minister of foreign affairs, On the occasion of Africa Day 2010
VICTORIA, Mahé, May 25, 2010/African Press Organization (APO)/ — Message from President James A. Michel In his capacity as the minister of foreign affairs,
On the occasion of Africa Day 2010
All Seychellois join together on the occasion of Africa day to proudly celebrate the indelible ties that bind us to the continent of Africa- Our Continent!
As a nation born from so many ethnic origins, we are a celebration of the diversity that makes Africa so fascinating to the world. Within this diversity, the spirit of Africa guides us towards a future full of promise and opportunity.
The theme for this year’s celebration, “Building and sustaining peace through sports” is most appropriate as Africa hosts its first ever World Cup in a few weeks time. South Africa’s success is Africa’s success. And Seychelles is so proud of also being a part of this momentous occasion as a son of Seychelles has reached the pinnacle of his profession to officiate at the World Cup Finals. I am sure that every Seychellois will be following events that unfold over the competition with keen interest, and we all offer Eddie Maillet our warmest wishes. The hands of fate will define the teams that win and lose, but Africa as a whole will emerge as a winner, with unprecedented new opportunities for the future.
Sport has the ability to enhance cohesion and foster peace and development in many ways. Seychelles is proud to be playing its part as the host of the CJSOI games in 2010 and the Indian Ocean Island Games in 2011.
Africa has seen many struggles and unfortunate events. Through sports and similar manifestations we are determined as African nations to show that peace, stability and unity are key components of our commitment to our peoples.
We believe in peace. We believe in Africa.
