Côte d’Ivoire / UNOCi’s new force commander visits Yamoussoukro

ABIDJAN, Côte d’Ivoire, April 27, 2010/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The new Force Commander of the United Nations Operation in Côte d’Ivoire (UNOCI), General Abdul Hafiz, on Friday, 23 April 2010, visited the Mission’s peacekeepers based in Yamoussoukro.

General Hafiz, who took up his duties on 24 March 2010, met with the transport company of the Pakistani battalion and Egyptian engineers before holding a working session with SENBATT officers and the Mission’s military observers.

The General reminded soldiers of the Force’s mandate and urged them not to fail in their mission. “You should take the necessary measures and always be ready to contribute to maintaining and preserving security and stability in the country,” he said.

The new Force Commander also outlined the importance of discipline. “Discipline is of prime necessity for soldiers and a must for the Force Commander”, he said.

General Hafiz then held a working session with Colonel Major Kouakou Nicolas and Colonel Karim Ouattara, the two chiefs of the Integrated Command Centre (ICC).

At the end of the meeting, the Chief of UNOCI Force told the press that he had come to Yamoussoukro to have a better understanding of the realities of his troops and the ICC. “The meeting was an opportunity for me to have a better knowledge of the tasks and responsibilities of the ICC and as you know we are working together. UNOCI is providing support to the ICC,” he said.
