Côte d’Ivoire / Students in Daloa make commitment to establish peaceful electoral environment

ABIDJAN, Côte d’Ivoire, March 24, 2010/African Press Organization (APO)/ — Students in the residential quarters of Kouma in Daloa have committed themselves to work for the establishment of a peaceful electoral environment.

At an information and sensitization session organized by the United Nations Operation in Côte d’Ivoire (UNOCI) in Daloa, 400 km from Abidjan, some 50 residents of the students’ quarters welcomed the first visit of the UN Mission to their university hostels. “The initiative to meet us and break the wall of suspicion and the opportunity for us to learn and better understand the role of the UN Mission in Cote d’Ivoire pleases us,” said one of the students, Stephane Achui.

UNOCI Public Information Office in Daloa explained UNOCI’s mandate in Cote d’Ivoire and sensitized them on the need for a peaceful electoral environment.

Officials of the regional university welfare centre of Daloa, including the deputy director of socio-cultural affairs, Mr. Seri Bailly, took part in the session, which marks the beginning of an information and sensitisation campaign to the various university residential quarters in the Daloa. The initiative is within the framework of the UN Mission’s efforts to contribute to the maintenance of a peaceful atmosphere before, during and after elections.
