 Security situation in Darfur


The security situation in Darfur remains relatively calm but unpredictable.

UNAMID military forces conducted 95 patrols including routine, short range, long range, night, and Humanitarian escort patrols, covering 75 villages and Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps during the reporting period.

UNAMID police advisors also conducted 102 patrols in villages and IDP camps.

UNAMID team assess conditions in Jabel Marra area
UNAMID Military visited Thur village in East Jabel Marra on 23 February to assess the general security situation in the area. The team interacted with the Sheikhs of Sheikhs (traditional leaders) and local community who informed the UNAMID team that about 2000 displaced persons had arrived from reported clashes in the area of Gulul and Boldong. The locals complained of insufficient water and healthcare.

The general security situation was reported to be calm.  

UNAMID Police Commissioner presents educational materials to IDPs in North Darfur
UNAMID Police Commissioner, Micheal Fryer, today presented 5000 exercise books to internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Abu Shouk and Al Salaam camp near El Fasher town in North Darfur.

The materials were presented to the Educational Coordinator and the Sheikhs and Umdas (traditional leaders) of both camps to be distributed to the schools in the area. The books quote the English and Arabic version of Mission’s mandate.
