During that visit, the Chairperson of the Commission will meet with all the Malagasy stakeholders and will submit to them proposals for compromise solutions to overcome the current impasse in the implementation of the Maputo Agreements of 8 and 9 August 2009 and the Addis Ababa Additional Act of 6 November 2009.
The Chairperson of the Commission will be accompanied by Ambassador Ramtane Lamamra,
Commissioner for Peace and Security, and representatives of countries and institutions
members of the International Contact Group on Madagascar (ICG‐M).
This visit is a follow‐up to the fourth meeting of the ICG‐M, held in Addis Ababa on 6 January
2010, which, inter alia, supported the initiative envisaged on an ad hoc basis by the Chairperson
of the AU Commission, given the urgency of the situation and the need to re‐launch the process
for a way out of the crisis, to develop and submit, to the Malagasy Parties, compromise
solutions on the outstanding issues in order to overcome the current impasse.
The Chairperson of the Commission expresses the hope that the efforts being undertaken will
make it possible to re‐launch the process for a way out of the crisis on a consensual and
inclusive basis. He urges the Malagasy parties to demonstrate a spirit of responsibility and
compromise and to place the interests of Madagascar and its people above any other
consideration.
