Minister Frattini’s mission to Africa: in Uganda to boost political and economic relations
ROME, Italy, January 18, 2010/African Press Organization (APO)/ — Boosting political relations and developing economic ones with a country that offers major potential for the Italian energy sector were the theme of Minister Frattini’s meetings in Uganda—the fifth leg of his Africa mission—with President Yoweri Museveni and foreign minister Sam Kutesa.
The Ugandan foreign minister pointed out in a joint press conference with Minister Frattini, that his country was weighing ENI’s proposal to buy 50% of its oil stakes. “ENI is making an extremely important offer”, Minister Frattini pointed out, “proposing an investment of nearly 13 billion dollars that includes the construction of a refinery and an electrical plant. I think the offer is one that should appeal to this country, but it’s up to them to decide”.
Uganda plays an important role in the stabilisation of the Great Lakes region and is the only African Union country to participate in the peace mission in Somalia.
