UNAMID, Government organise AIDS Day in North Darfur
In a venture supported by UNAMID, the Sudanese National AIDS Programme (SNAP) began a campaign yesterday commemorating World AIDS Day in El Fasher, North Darfur. The celebration, delayed due to the Eid Al Adha holiday season, was attended by state health officials, representatives of the humanitarian community and large number of local residents.
Under the theme of “Universal Access and Human Rights,” the celebration featured an exhibition detailing information about HIV/AIDs in addition to booths where people could get confidential screening. The campaign focused on raising awareness about the disease and attempting to break many of the social stigmas associated with HIV/AIDS.
In addition to yesterday’s events, a number of sports competitions are planned to take place in the coming days.
