UNAMID concludes GBV workshop for sub-committee members

UNAMID Head of Office for North Darfur, Hassan Gibril, urged the participants of a GBV workshop to use the knowledge they gained to help survivors on the ground and also to assist the State Committee in addressing GBV issues at a community level.

UNAMID has today concluded a two-day workshop on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in El Fasher, North Darfur, organised by the Gender Advisory Unit in collaboration with the North Darfur State Committee on GBV. The workshop aimed at building and strengthening the capacity of members of the State Committee to effectively administer GBV programmes at community level.

Thirty members of regional sub-committees from Kabkabiya, Mellit and Kutum localities participated in the workshop. The attendees are from various youth, media, health, community policing and women’s organizations within their respective communities, 16 of them female.

Gibril stated that UNAMID’S support for this programme stemmed from its obligations under the Mission’s mandate to protect vulnerable groups from human rights abuses.
