
First Meeting of the AUC/ECA partners dialogue
ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, December 1, 2009/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The First Forum for Strategic Partners Dialogue bringing together the African Union Commission (AUC) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) kicks off tomorrow, Tuesday 1st December 2009, at the headquarters of the AU Commission in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Mr. Jean Ping, Chairperson of the AUC and Mr. Abdoulie Janneh, Executive Secretary of ECA are expected to address the forum tomorrow at the AU Headquarters.
The meeting aims at improving cooperation ties between the AUC and the ECA while encouraging joint efforts towards achieving the development of Africa. In this light, the strategies and efforts of these two important organisations need to be interdependent and inter-linked based on the principles of complimentarily and comparative advantages.
The forum will be an opportunity to consider the need for a new partnership for the continent with the African Union as the interlocutor, supported by the Economic Commission of Africa. It will also re-evaluate options for developing a more strategic and equitable partnership that will be assessed based on the achievement of concrete results and outcomes in African and global affairs.
Discussions at the meeting will include amongst other things, Global Perspectives of the AU and ECA; the AUC and ECA Medium Term Priorities and the Development and Strategic Partnership for the AUC and ECA.
The second part of the three-day meeting will hold on 2nd and 3rd December 2009, at the Conference Centre of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA).
