VIENNA, Va., Nov. 23 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Ready access to cash is something most of us take for granted. For the 2,000 men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces serving at Camp Lemonnier in Djibouti, that wasn’t always the case.

At the request of the Navy, Navy Federal Credit Union installed a cash-dispensing ATM on base. This culminated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, October 31st, attended by Rear Admiral Tony Kurta, USN, Commander Combined Joint Task Force Horn of Africa. “This Navy Federal ATM is a huge advance in the quality of life for our Sailors, Marines, Soldiers, Airmen and civilians,” said RDML Kurta. “Of all the things I ever imagined doing while being photographed, withdrawing money from an ATM is not one of them! That said, it felt good to use an ATM onboard Camp Lemonnier.”

The ATM serves as the only U.S. financial services provider to military and civilian personnel in Djibouti. Men and women serving in the Horn of Africa are able to get dollar currency from the ATM and use it in Djibouti for direct purchases, exchange it at banks in town, or at the Disbursing Office.

“In response to quality-of-life improvement projects at Camp Lemonnier, Navy Federal is pleased to help our military in such a remote area of the world,” said Cutler Dawson, President and CEO at Navy Federal. “Our motto ‘We Serve Where You Serve,’ is a testament to our mission of delivering convenient financial access for members worldwide.”
