Seventh session of the International Contact Group on Guinea (ICG-G) Final communique

 

 

NEW YORK, September 28, 2009/African Press Organization (APO)/ — Seventh session of the International Contact Group on Guinea (ICG-G) Final communique

 

1. The seventh session of the International Contact Group on Guinea (ICG-G) 1 took place in the premises of the Permanent observer Mission of the African Union to the United Nations in New York on September 22, 2009.

2. The Group expressed grave concerns about the delays in the electoral process and the continuing deterioration in the political, human rights and security situations in Guinea.

3. The Group welcomed the decision taken by the 204th meeting of the African Union Peace and Security Council regarding the commitment by the President of CNDD that neither he, the other members of the CNDD, nor the Prime Minister would be candidates in the forthcoming presidential elections. It called upon the President of the CNDD to reaffirm these commitments through a formal document.

4. The Group expressed its appreciation to the Heads of State of Liberia and Senegal for their joint goodwill visit to Guinea on September 12, 2009. It called on other approached Heads of State of the region to undertake, in coordination with the Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority, goodwill missions to Guinea towards facilitating the respect by the CNDD President of his commitment with regards to the electoral process.

5. The Group agreed to meet in October 2009 to review its position based on the evolution of the situation in Guinea. It expressed its gratitude to the Permanent Observer Mission of the African Union to the United Nations for the excellent facilities placed at its disposal to facilitate the success of the meeting.
