
WFP announces appointment of new representative to Sudan
KARTHUM, Sudan, September 24, 2009/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The United Nations World Food Programme today announced the appointment of Amer Daoudi as its Representative in Sudan.
Prior to his new appointment in Sudan, Daoudi, a Jordanian national, served for two-and-a- half years as the Director of WFP’s Logistics Division in Rome, where he managed the agency’s logistics operations to deliver food assistance to 108 million people in 74 countries.
“I am happy to be back in Sudan and to be heading WFP’s largest operation in the world,” said Daoudi, who first worked in Sudan as WFP’s Head of Logistics from 1994 to1998. “I have deep respect and affection for the Sudanese people and am honoured to help them alleviate hunger and reestablish food security in my new capacity.”
From Sudan, Daoudi moved to Ethiopia, serving as Regional Logistics Coordinator for both Ethiopia and Djibouti from 1998 to 2001. He then was assigned as Regional Logistics Officer for East, Central and Southern Africa from 2001 to 2003.
He also was deployed to large-scale emergencies in Afghanistan (2001-2002), Southern Africa and Iraq, which involved a supply chain feeding 27 million Iraqis.
Daoudi joined WFP as a Field Officer in 1994 in Sudan. He succeeds Kenro Oshidari who after serving more than 3 years in Sudan, has been transferred to Bangkok, Thailand, as WFP’s Regional Director for Asia.
