Security Situation in Darfur
During the last 24 hours, the general security situation in Darfur has been reported to be relatively calm, but unpredictable.
UNAMID military conducted a total of 81 patrols in and around villages and internally displaced persons (IDP) camps. UNAMID police conducted a total of 125 patrols in and around the villages and IDP camps.
A total of 26 police officers from Nepal together with 30 from Nigeria arrived in El Fasher today to begin working with the Mission. Their arrival will push UNAMID’s police deployment to over 3,000 police officers.
Incoming UNAMID Force Commander visits troops in North Darfur
Incoming UNAMID Force Commander, Lieutenant General Patrick Nyamvumba, visited the Rwandan battalion deployed in the Zam Zam team site in North Darfur as part of his familiarization tour in the Mission area. The Force Commander, who arrived in the Mission area on Monday 24 August, has since visited a number of other peacekeeping troops and civilians based in UNAMID. He is scheduled to visit Egyptian troops deployed in other areas of North Darfur later in the week. Rwanda is one of the largest troop contributing countries to UNAMID.
