UNAMID donates items to women prison
UNAMID Rule of Law today presented items to Kheir Khanaga Women Prison in El Fasher, North Darfur. The donation was made in response to a request made to UNAMID on 29 July requesting for support within the women in Khanaga women prison. They were presented with various items among which included cooking utensils and beddings. UNAMID also approved the construction of accommodation for female prisoners as part of its quick impact projects (QIPs).
The donation being made to this prison underscores UNAMID’s commitment to strengthening the national institutions, particularly in this case, the Prisons System in North Darfur to enable it respond to the needs of the people in the State. UNAMID will continue to work very closely with the state in a bid to improve the prisons conditions in North Darfur and to build the institutional capacity of the prisons system to be able to address the challenges.
