Security Situation in Darfur

During the past 24 hours, the security situation in Darfur remains relatively calm.

 

UNAMID military conducted a total of 115 patrols in and around the villages and IDP camps. Similarly, UNAMID police advisors conducted a total of 159 in and around the villages and IDP camps.

 

UNAMID forces in El Geneina, West Darfur conducted a long-range patrol to Dulla Laham, Bir Dagig and Kondobe villages about 40 kilometres from El Geneina town, to assess the security and humanitarian situations in the villages. The patrol team interacted with the locals who informed that they received healthcare services from a nearby clinic and had one school in the area.

 

UNAMID Force Commander pays a courtesy call to Wali of North Darfur

UNAMID Force Commander, General Martin Luther Agwai today paid a courtesy call to the Wali (Governor) of North Darfur, Mr. Osman Kibir. During the meeting, General Agwai expressed appreciation at the cordial relationship presented between UNAMID and the government as well as the support the offered to the Mission during difficult times. They also discussed issues of mutual interest.

 

Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Nyamvumba is expected to arrive in Darfur this week on familiarization visit and will assume duty as Force Commander of the AU-UN Hybrid Operation on 1 September.

 

UNAMID conducts workshop for Central Reserve Police

UNAMID Human Rights organized a three-day workshop, for Central Reserve Police officers which began yesterday in El Geneina town, West Darfur. The training aims to improve participants’ knowledge on international human rights and humanitarian law, the use of force and firearms, and women and law enforcement. The workshop was attended by senior officers, middle rank officers and junior officers from the Central Reserve Police.
