The African Union High Level Panel on Darfur to Hold Press Conference at the AU Media Centre, Addis Ababa, tomorrow Friday , 10 July 2009 at 13:30 hrs (1.30 pm).
ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, July 9, 2009/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The Chairperson of the African Union High Level Panel on Darfur (AUPD) and former South African President, Mr. Thabo Mbeki, will brief the Press on the Panel’s meetings with interested parties, tomorrow 10 July 2009 at 13:30 hrs (1.30 pm), at the AU headquarters, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia this week.
The Panel was appointed by the Chairperson of the AU Commission to investigate and report on how to achieve peace, reconciliation and justice with respect to the situation in Darfur.
Other members of the Panel are: General Abdulsalami Abubakar, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; Mr Pierre Buyoya, former President of Burundi; Hon Judge Florence Mumba, Judge of the Supreme Court of Zambia; Ms Rakiya A. Omaar, Director, African Rights, Mr Mohammed Kabir, formerly Special Envoy of President Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria, and Mr Ahmed Maher El Sayed, former Foreign Minister of Egypt.
