
Chairperson Ping receives accreditation of permanent observer of Colombia to the African Union
ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, March 27, 2009/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Jean Ping, today, Friday 27 March 2009, at the headquarters of the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, received the accreditation letters of H.E. Ms. Maria Victoria Diaz De Suarez, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Colombia to the Government of Kenya and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Nairobi.
Ambassador Diaz De Suarez presented her credential letters, accrediting her as a Permanent Observer of Colombia to the African Union in Addis Ababa.
Both Chairperson Ping and Ambassador Diaz De Suarez discussed ways of strengthening the relationship between Colombia and the African Union. Several areas of cooperation were highlighted during their discussion, including agricultures, food security, climate change, post-conflict reconstruction, internally displaced persons and refugees among others. They both expressed the need to combine efforts and share best practices from the expertise on both sides.
According to Mr. Ping, the African Union and Colombia have common interest given their geographical similarity as well as cultural and social behaviors. To that effect, he underscored the need for both parties to closely in order to enhance integration and development of Africa.
