
MINURCAT hosts Ghanaian and Togolese military teams
NDJAMENA, Chad, January 27, 2009/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The United Nations Mission in Central African and
Chad (MINURCAT) successively hosted military teams from Togo and Ghana. The
two countries have expressed a willingness to contribute military personnel and
equipment to the United Nations peacekeeping mission mandated by the Security
Council to succeed to the European Force (EUFOR) as of 15 March 2009.
The military teams of these potential troop-contributing countries held preliminary
discussions with the MINURCAT military planning unit, the Special Representative
of the Secretary-General (SRSG), Mr. Victor Angelo and national authorities. The
military teams travel throughout the area of operations to get a first-hand look at
prevailing conditions. MINURCAT welcomes the involvement of African states in
support of its peacekeeping efforts to bring peace and stability to Darfur refugee
camps and internally displaced persons of Chad.
