NDJAMENA, Chad, January 27, 2009/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The United Nations Mission in Central African and

Chad (MINURCAT) successively hosted military teams from Togo and Ghana. The

two countries have expressed a willingness to contribute military personnel and

equipment to the United Nations peacekeeping mission mandated by the Security

Council to succeed to the European Force (EUFOR) as of 15 March 2009.

The military teams of these potential troop-contributing countries held preliminary

discussions with the MINURCAT military planning unit, the Special Representative

of the Secretary-General (SRSG), Mr. Victor Angelo and national authorities. The

military teams travel throughout the area of operations to get a first-hand look at

prevailing conditions. MINURCAT welcomes the involvement of African states in

support of its peacekeeping efforts to bring peace and stability to Darfur refugee

camps and internally displaced persons of Chad.
