South Africa / President declares national days of mourning for the late Dr Nthato Motlana

 

PRETORIA, South Africa, December 2, 2008/African Press Organization (APO)/ — President Kgalema Motlanthe has declared the period 3 December to 6 December 2008 national days of morning in honour of the late Dr Nthato Motlana.

 

Accordingly, all national flags at Provincial and National levels – including Diplomatic Missions – abroad will be flown at half-mast, in honour of this great individual.

Dr Motlana was a well-known anti-apartheid activist who was, along with former President Mandela, accused in the 1952 Defiance Campaign Trial. He was also an accomplished businessman and family physician to the Mandela family. President Motlanthe described Dr Motlana as a hero worthy of praise by South Africans for his contribution to what the country is today.

“Our sincere condolence goes to the Motlana family and friends. I declared from tomorrow, 3 December 2008 until the day of the funeral, national days of mourning and National flags shall be flown at half-mast”, said President Motlanthe
